A little discouraged

Well, I just started etsy a little over a month ago and I am getting a little discouraged, because besides one alchemy request I have only had sales from friends who are trying to be supportive. I would appreciate any suggestions on how to improve my shop or boost sales. I was doing this to bring in some extra income, my husband is a seasonal firefighter for Cal Fire and he is being laid off next month, for three months, and I need somes sales soon :)

I would appreciate any help and encourageme… Continue

Hi Marie,

Don't be discouraged, hang in there.
I've opened my etsy shop 11 months ago and have felt like you are feeling now, but if you are patient good things will happen.
Your work is beautiful!

Hi Marie,
I have made hundreds of beanies in my day and here is the general, easy way to get them done;
start with ch4, sl st to make loop,
ch2, 10-15 dc around loop (how many dc depends on type of yarn. you want enough dcs to make a circle.
sl st to ch2 from previous round.
ch2, 2dc in next and each stitch around, sl st to ch2 on current round.
ch2, (2dc in next st, 1dc in next st) around, sl st to ch2 on current round.
ch2, (2dc in next st, 1dc in next 2 stitches) around. sl st to ch2 on current round.
From here, generally you have expanded enough to fit most adult heads so it's possible to crochet just 1dc in each and every stitch from here, increasing with 2dc whenever needed.
The key to beanies is to expand rapidly at the top of the beanie (but not too much that the work goes wavy, keep it flat), and then after a few rounds, taper to 1 dc/sc/hdc per stitch. This will tighten the work gradually and will usually fit right around the head. Then towards the bottom, near the forehead, I will decrease a few stitches in the last two rounds so the beanie is not floppy around the ears. Nice, loosely tight fitting, around the earline will make a stylish and functional beanie.
I hope this helps, feel free to ask me for more detail or elaboration!
Thanks!

No problem. I always thank the fire fighters and police and military when I see them. they are all heroes. Keep making pretty things.

Good night.

Hi Marie,

I've been a member since August. I hope to sell soon also, I just keep reminding myself, I make this stuff anyway because I love to, the sales are extra. Keep a chin up, and thank your husband for fighting fires, I apprieciate it. Lots of luck.
