What Do You Do In The "Real" World?

I'm sure we all have lives outside of Etsy (LOL!), so what do you do? Are you a work at home mom or dad, do you work part time, full time or are you a stay at home?

hugs, Deon

I guess I fit the closest so far with merigreenleaf. I'm 24, finishing up college, and thinking about graduate school. So, I go to college, and also work pretty much full-time retail, about 38 hours a week. When I'm not doing the above, I crochet to keep from doing homework :) I also street team it quite often, as I'm a member of three now. :)

I'm 25 and work full-time as a Client Service Representative for a background screening company. My department takes calls from both clients and applicants. It's a very interesting job. You never know who you're going to be talking to on the phone. I really like my job too. Of course, like every job, there are tough days where it seems like I can't make anyone happy. Those days I really look forward to going home and working on a project.

I am a SAHM with 5 kids. Adaira is 10, Braydon is 7, Kaylen is 6, Geran is 4, and Alyia is also 4 (not twins) We are a blended family, but all the kids 'match' so we look all related. I like to read fantasy novels (when I can) I like to cook and bake, I occasionally do baking for friends, and have a cheesecake deal with my massage therapist. I also am learning to renovate the house we bought 2 yrs ago, I HATE drywalling! And I am a belly dancer, recently I performed a choreography I did, (my first) solo. Nerve wracking, but I didn't mess up much. And with 7 people in the house I do a TON of laundry! That's enough to keep me busy 'round the clock!

I am 48 and Disabled from a Massive heart attack in 2002. My grandmother taught me to crochet when I was young probably 5 or 6... I have made items and sold them at church, especially my afghans for baby and wedding showers. But someone told me about ETSY I checked it out and decided to start a store here. I love to stay busy. I was a single working MOM before my disability so I still have to be the Head of the family.

Etsy helps to keep me sane, Since I am home all the time and get out very little. I love the friendships I have made here. And look forward to being a long time member of the Etsy Family. The Hookers here have been very encouraging and supportive and I am very blessed to be a member!

I'm a mother of 3 pretty girls: CJ-15, Heidi-12, and (oops!) KT-2. I have worked very part time in our church nursery for 12 years. Was a receptionist at a fitness club until I had the last baby. Started working on knit/crochet because KT insisted on being held to sleep...even though I have made things since I was 13 - I started making things to sell.
My business is busy right now because I have 6 design projects from a yarn company--write the pattern and work up the prototype; a consignment shop is selling my girl dress designs and wants more, and my Etsy shop is the least active (averaging 2 sales per month)- but I so adore the ladies I've met on etsy. It's where I go for a coffee break!

By day I am a Customer Service Rep for a large cellular provider. Yes I am the one you get on the other end of the 800 line when your service goes haywire. = ) I started crocheting about 2 years ago. My partner taught me and I made a blanket that turned out VERY uneven. I put it away for a few months and then picked up the craft again. I started to crochet at work in between calls and on my breaks. When people saw me crochet they would ask to buy certain items from me. That is how I learned to make a lot of our items. After awhile I found Etsy and started a shop there a few months ago. My partner crochets also and makes all of the jewelry on our site and works for the same company as I do as a Customer Service Rep.

When I'm not crocheting or working on Etsy my partner of 4 years and I work on our house. I tend to our small veggie garden and we take care of our six animals (3 cats and 3 dogs). We have also discovered the world of craft fairs and festivals. We LOVE it!! It's such a great way to see what appeals to people. We both go to school part-time. I am majoring in History and Religion and my partner is majoring in Political Science. Eventually I would like to get my masters degree and teach college level classes. But lately I've been toying of the idea of doing this business full time if it ever takes off. One can dream can't they? LOL

Hi all! I'm a suburbanite with a creative husband and 2 crazy cats that act like people. I will be 31 this friday :) Most people say 30 was the best year of their lives... boy did i have the opposite experience! But it all culminated with me taking a chance to leave the world of high-end retail sales to begin a career in Visual Merchansing (or mannequin wrangling, as i lovingly call it). Before this I spent many years sewing, patternmaking, and dying fabric for various local artists and designers. I spent a while designing and constructing wedding gowns, too. Guess i haven't had much of a direction so far in life! I like to try everything! I like to sew, knit, crochet, dye, make knitting needles, remodel my house, garden, and cook. Crochet is the craft I have the least experience in, but it's been the most rewarding lately! Funny how things work out, hmm? :)

I am 33 years old. I am a registered nurse and I work in a hospital as a charge nurse. I crochet in my spare time that I have while helping my husband raise our combined family of seven children oldest is 13 and youngest is 20 months. Can you hear me screaming. LOL. Well I love my large family. Not all of the children live with us full time just my four. My husband is a domestic engineer (stay at home dad). It is not the norm but it works for us. Yes I would like to stay at home, but I can make the most money for our family. I also hope to eventually make some extra money from etsy.

In the real world, I'm mom to two teenage boys (17 and 18) with autism. We've also taken in one of their friends. So most of my day is spent at appointments, on the phone, and of course in the car! I'm also living with fibromyalgia, which makes life interesting :) In my previous life (before disabilities), I was a medical transcriptionist working at home for a local hospital. But honestly, my life is much better now. There's nothing like being able to spend every day with my kids.
